A Romantic Theme Park Story

This is a picture of me and my high school girlfriend back in 1993.

It was taken right before we got in a limousine with six of our other friends to go to the Senior Prom.

The evening was great... dinner, dancing, the works.

But the part I was most excited for was the next day.

You see, it was my big idea to continue the date and and take my girlfriend to my favorite spot on earth...

Kings Dominion.

It was the first time I ever took a girl to a theme park and honestly, it was magical.

I remember feeling like an adult for the first time.  Here I was, alone with a girl I was madly in love with at my favorite place.

I remember being amazed that a girl who was so fun and so sweet and so good looking wanted to hang out with me!  As a bonus, she liked going to theme parks too!

I think our theme park date went pretty well.  After all, I married that girl seven years later.

My point here is that theme parks can be quite a romantic place.  And I know I'm not alone in that thought.

This week, we want to hear from all of you, but especially the ladies, about your favorite romantic things to do at the parks.  Maybe you have a romantic story to share about a successful date?  Whatever it is, we want to hear from you!

Feel free to let us know right here on the blog by using the "Comments" link below.  You can also e-mail us by using the address over on the right!

The best way to get on our show is to call our voicemail line at 206-339-3360 and tell us your story!

  1. Nice! Are you going to have Molly on the show? I would love to hear her perspective on the date! And while you're at it, have EB's wife on too.
    Looking forward to it guys...

  2. It was about ten years ago when I took out a girlfriend of mine to the local mop fair.

This fair takes place twice a year. The little mop takes place before the 11Th October and the big mop takes place after the 11Th.

Our first date went well and we made arrangements to meet again next week.

Of course she never turned up but later that night I saw her kissing someone else.

I never spoke to her again.

  3. I have GOT to comment on this topic!

I actually have a tip that I once found in Walt Disney World For Teens By Teens in the early part of the last decade, that I would like to pass along, even though I've never done so myself: Apparently the Tomorrowland Transit Authority is a good spot to make out...

  4. My home park Valleyfair! has a covered bridge that passes over pond in a quieter, more vegetated part of the park. Not really that private, but a good place to just rest a minute with that special someone.

Sadly though it seems as if this bridge has been torn down to make room for the new Planet Snoopy area, which leaves Valleyfair! pretty romancless. (sp?) That's what the Ye Olde Mill at the State Fair is for.

  5. Anyplace you can find a Tunnel of Love is a good story.

  6. If you have the money. Having dinner at Victoria & Alberts is a special place to have a romantic evening. But if you really have the money you can rent out the Grand One Yacht at the Grand Floridian resort. You can have it staff with private butlers or make it a private affair for either dinner, snacks, or 5-course meal. Have it setup to watch the fireworks while making fireworks of your own.

  7. There's really not a lot of places that inspires romance at the Universal theme parks. You not going to have a loving monument while riding Jaws, Disaster, or The Mummy. But if you at the Universal Orlando resort, head out to the Portofino Bay resort just walking or coach bike ride away from the park. The whole resort is theme to a Mediterranean village with classic romantic decor. Having Dinner at Mama Dellas where a real band plays Italian romantic music bring's romance in the air and in the mood. If you can handle a $294 nite room rate the hotel is right in line in keeping the romance mood going all nite long.

  8. It may not be the most romantic thing at the time, but a picture with your significant other in front of any of the Disney castles seems to always become a cherished memory.

  9. I have always stolen a kiss or two in the Haunted Mansion at WDW. It is always at the part of the ride when you leave the attic scene and are going backwards in the dark.

Thrills and excitement aside, dining in the Disney parks can be very romantic. Disney knows how to create atmosphere and the settings for their nicer restaurants are always top notch, as well as the food. My husband and I love dining out for special occasions, and having great dining opportunities in the parks helps make for romantic as well as "magical" experiences. Favorites of mine are Blue Bayou (Disneyland and Disneyland Paris), Chefs de France (EPCOT), and Coral Reef (EPCOT), with dining in Cinderella's Castle and the Garden Tea at The Grand Floridian taking top honors for romantic dining. But I think my very favorite has to be the SciFi Dine-In Theater at Disney Hollywood Studios. Not traditionally romantic perhaps, but a fun place with loads of atmosphere that's special to movie buffs and Mystery Science Theatre nuts like me and my husband. We always leave with smiles on our faces.
